<image:title>Blog - Starting Seeds and Setting Goals - Environmental Goals Environmental awareness has been a part of every decision made at Beverly Blooms, from how flowers are grown to how they’re designed and delivered. For the 2026 season, my environmental goals focus on reducing waste and building new systems. This season, I’m committed to:</image:title>
<image:caption>Minimizing and eliminating single-use materials wherever possible. Slowly replacing with reusable, compostable, or longer-lasting alternatives. Starting a compost system on the farm. Flower farming produces a ton of organic material so why not close the loop and return those nutrients to the soil! Designing with AgraWool only and eliminating floral foam entirely from my design plans. These choices may mean more planning and creativity, but they move the farm and this business toward a more regenerative and responsible future.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Sweet peas are one of the first seeds I sow each year, they thrive in cool conditions and are some of the first flowers to bloom in late spring and early summer. Come June, I’ll have armfuls of fragrant blooms like this! Started 10–12 weeks before our average last frost Seeds can be soaked for up to 24 hours before sowing to improve germination Grown in deep containers to support their long root systems This season includes a few new varieties including Elegance Salmon Rose, a warm salmony-pink that adds softness and warmth to early summer arrangements</image:caption>

<image:caption>Ranunculus are truly a labor of love, but they’re worth every bit of effort and are truly one of my favorite flowers! Corms can be soaked and pre-sprouted before planting, soak for 12-24 hours before planting Cool temperatures are key for strong growth! If stems are week, you can pinch them to encourage stronger growth These will be some of the earliest focal flowers of the season, perfect for early market bouquets (see you there!)</image:caption>

<image:caption>Campanula takes patience, but their airy feel and unique shape are well worth the wait, if you ask me. These are tiny seeds that require light to germinate so they need to be sown on the top of the soil This flower has a long grow time (germination: 14–28 days) so early sowing is essential A beautiful filler flower that adds movement and softness to bouquets</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Here we go again!</image:title>
<image:caption>Snapdragons are a must grow every season for me. They are an absolute workhorse of a flower and produce strong stems all season long! Sow indoors under grow lights 8–10 weeks before last frost They thrive when started early so they can harden off in the cooler weather. Pinch when the seedling is 4-6” tall to promote more lateral growth and deadhead for continuous blooms all season.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Wrapping Up 2025 & Looking Ahead to 2026 - Looking Ahead to 2026 As I turn toward 2026, I’m feeling grounded and hopeful. The goal for the new year is to continue this momentum and to deepen what’s already been working. Some of my 2026 goals:</image:title>
<image:caption>Expanding CSA offerings with thoughtful variety and a stronger focus on what grows best here, season by season Continuing to grow relationships with customers, fellow makers, and local businesses Refining designs that reflect my personal style: natural, expressive, and a little wild Centering sustainability and seasonality in everyday decisions, from crop planning and sourcing to how arrangements are designed Showing up with confidence, trusting that there is space for my voice and my work</image:caption>

<image:caption>If you supported Beverly Blooms in any way this year by purchasing flowers, sharing a post, stopping by a market booth, or simply offering encouragement, thank you! <image:title>Blog - Wreaths, Reflections, and Planning Ahead - As the last of the fall leaves drop and the first snow flurries start to tease us here in Western Montana, the flower fields at Beverly Blooms have gone quiet. November is always a time of transition, a deep exhale after months of constant motion. The pace shifts from the color and chaos of summer and fall to-dos to the calm, reflective rhythm of winter work. The days are shorter and slower, giving space for rest and thought after a season spent in overdrive. It’s when I trade in my buckets for wreath rings, spreadsheets, seed catalogs, and a warm cup of tea.</image:title>
<image:caption>There’s a quiet kind of joy in this slower season. While the fields sleep, I finally have time to catch my breath, get creative in new ways, and reconnect with the heart of why I grow flowers in the first place: to share beauty, joy, and connection in every season, even when the flowers have faded.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Wreaths, Reflections, and Planning Ahead - 2026 Flower CSA Shares Coming Soon! While winter feels like the farthest thing from flower season, it’s actually when the next one starts to take shape. BB’s 2026 bouquet CSA subscriptions will become available in early December. There are options for everyone, and these subscriptions make a great, lasting holiday gift for loved ones!</image:title>
<image:caption>A CSA subscription is a beautiful way to bring fresh, local flowers into your life, or to give the gift of seasonal blooms to someone special. CSA stands for community supported agriculture and is a seasonal subscription for community members to support their local farmers and receive a fresh bouquet of flowers weekly or bi-weekly in return. Spots are limited each year, and they always go quickly, so this is your friendly reminder to plan ahead if you’d like to be part of next season’s subscriptions!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - A Heartfelt Thank You! - I have been blown away by the way Missoula has embraced my flowers and my business. When I show up at a pop-up or market, or deliver a bouquet, I’m met with such enthusiasm and a genuine desire to connect. Time and time again, you’ve shown that you’re not just buying flowers; you’re supporting the soil they’re grown in, the hands that tend them, and the dream that started this business. That kind of support is rare, and it means the absolute world to me!</image:title>
<image:caption>There is also something uniquely Missoulian about the way this community rallies around small businesses and creators. Every week at the market, I see familiar faces who come back</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - A Heartfelt Thank You! - Now for some fall farm updates! The field is starting to shift from it’s summer abundance into a quieter, slower season. While it might look like the farm is winding down, fall is actually one of the busiest times of the year. This is when I do a lot of the behind-the-scenes work that ensures the soil, seeds, and plants are ready to burst back to life come spring. This is especially crucial in Western Montana where the actual growing season is a bit shorter.</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the most exciting (and kind of nerve-wracking) parts of fall work is direct sowing seeds right into the field. This year I’m focusing on growing more native flowers like lupine, coneflower, blanket flower, and solidago. These native flowers not only thrive in this climate, but also when planted in the cool fall soil they can germinate just enough to hold through the winter and then bolt ahead in the spring as soon as the snow melts. This will allow me to get a little bit of an earlier start next season if all goes to plan! I’ll also be planting a few Ranunculus corms and perennial starts from the local nursery (shout out to Caras Nursery) that benefit from a cold season in the ground. It’s a way of trusting the natural</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Slow Transitions of September - This month is all about double harvesting. I’m still cutting plenty of flowers for fresh bouquets at Missoula Makers and the Missoula Farmers Market, but I’m also gathering and setting aside blooms that will dry and be used this fall and winter for wreaths and other dried goodies!</image:title>
<image:caption>Some of the standout flowers I’m drying this year include: Strawflower – Their star-like papery petals keep their color long after they’re cut. Statice – Adds structure and rich jewel tones to dried designs. Amaranth – Its long-tasseled shape brings length and texture to any dried piece. Bunny tail grass and seed pods – They bring in such unique texture and movement Celosia and Yarrow – Both keep their shape and color surprisingly well if dried correctly.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Height of the Season on the Farm - I also can’t help but reflect on what this season has meant to me personally, it’s my very first season farming and selling in Missoula, and it’s not even over yet! When I made the decision to move here and start fresh, I really didn’t know what to expect. I was leaving behind the familiarity of the spaces, routines, and connections I had built, and essentially starting from scratch in a new place. It was exciting, yes, but also incredibly vulnerable. Building something from the ground up is never easy and doing it twice in 5 years felt like a huge risk and another leap of faith. But from the very beginning, Missoula showed up with open arms. The welcome I’ve received has been more than I could have hoped for. Friends and family rallied around me and the community has embraced Beverly Blooms with such kindness and curiosity. Every encouraging word at the farmers market, every returning customer, every person who signed up for a CSA share, sent a message, or told a friend about the farm has helped this dream take root. And for that, I’m endlessly grateful. I’ve felt genuinely supported not just as a business, but as a person. From loyal customers to fellow farmers and florists who’ve offered advice, connection, and camaraderie, to local business owners who’ve said yes to partnerships and pop-ups, it really feels like I landed in the right place. Every Saturday I’ve spent at the market has been a joy. There’s something really special about seeing someone pick out flowers that I grew from seed, watching them light up over a sunflowers or take a big sniff of the sweet peas. And even those who don’t buy anything but stop to chat or offer a smile. They’ve filled me up more than they probably know. Every little moment of support, every gesture of kindness has all added up to something really meaningful for me. I don’t take any of it for granted. As the season continues and I look ahead to fall and beyond, I feel not just hopeful, but rooted (pun intended). And that’s all because of this incredible community.</image:title>
<image:caption>Thank you, Missoula, for making this first season so fulfilling. I can’t wait to keep growing and growing!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Getting Ready for Summer Blooms - 1. Transplanting We’re officially past the average last frost date here in our Western Montana growing zone, which is a major turning point in the season! This means the risk of hard frost is behind us (hopefully), and I can finally begin planting with a little more confidence and less weather anxiety. Cold-tolerant flowers like delphinium, snapdragon, yarrow, statice, and cress are either already in the ground or being planted now. These hardier early summer bloomers thrive in cooler nights and don’t mind the occasional chilly breeze, making them the perfect flowers to kick off the season, before all of the heat-loving blooms.</image:title>
<image:caption>2. Staking and Netting Tall crops like snapdragons, dahlias, and amaranth need support before summer winds start blowing. I’m busy setting up netting and corral systems to keep stems long, straight, and market-ready. Tall crops like snapdragons, dahlias, amaranth, scabiosa, and some varieties of cosmos require extra attention throughout the season as they grow. These beauties are known for their long stems which makes them especially vulnerable to wind damage, heavy rain, or even just their own weight as blooms start to form. A single storm or a few gusty days can bend or snap precious stems, which is why support structures need to be installed now, so the plants are supported through every stage of growing.</image:caption>
</image:image>

<image:title>Blog - Getting Ready for Summer Blooms - 4. Irrigation Maintenance As the days heat up and the number of plants in the field increases, irrigation becomes one of the most important systems on the farm. Spring rains become less reliable as summer sets in and with more and more starts being transplanted to the field, getting the drip irrigation set up is top priority right now. Drip delivers water right to the root zone of each plant, minimizing waste and keeping foliage dry, which helps reduce diseases and molds from forming. It's also much more efficient than overhead watering, using less water and preserving our natural resources as much as possible!</image:title>
<image:caption>There’s no natural shade on the farm, so the field is fully exposed to the intense Montana sun all day long. That full-sun exposure means the plants require a consistent and carefully managed watering schedule to stay healthy and happy. Finding the right balance is key, I want to give the flowers enough water to thrive without overdoing it, which can lead to wasting resources and even root rot for certain flowers. keeping a close eye on how each crop responds so we can conserve water while still giving the flowers exactly what they need to flourish in the summer sun.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Getting Ready for Summer Blooms - For now, I’ll be prepping materials for the booth and display and, of course, tending to all the flowers that will soon be in your home. Things like buckets, signs, labels and price tags, and table displays all get a seasonal refresh to make sure the stand is both beautiful and functional :) Each June, I take some time to give everything a little love. Buckets are scrubbed clean, labels and tags are restocked, any new signage is ordered or created, and the booth layout is refreshed. So be sure to stop by this Summer, say hello, and pick up some beautiful blooms! I can’t wait to meet new faces and hopefully see some familiar ones. It means so much to share my flowers with people who value local, seasonal beauty and who choose to support a small business like Beverly Blooms!</image:title>
<image:caption>More Ways I’ll Be Sharing Flowers This Summer My goal has always been to bring more joy and beauty to as many people as I can through flowers. I’m working on finding as many ways as possible to do this, for now here’s how you can find BB flowers this season:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - May is a Month of Promise - Getting The Plants Ready for the Great Outdoors One of the most exciting (and slightly nerve-wracking) parts of May is transitioning the flower seedlings from their cozy greenhouse setups to the harsher, less predictable, climate of outside in the field. This month I will be beginning the process of hardening off cold-tolerant varieties, and first up is the delphinium and sweet peas! I will be slowly acclimating them to the outdoor conditions by moving them outside of the greenhouse each day and bringing them back inside at night. It’s a crucial step to ensure they can handle wind, sun, and temperature fluctuations without going into shock. The last thing I want is for them to die after the months of hard work and careful monitoring.</image:title>
<image:caption>This time of year is all about watching the forecast closely and making micro-adjustments to the plans. Montana has a reputation for unpredictable weather—frosty mornings, surprise snow flurries, and sudden hot spells are all in the realm of possibility all through the month of May. But once the lows stay consistently above freezing, I’ll be able to start transplanting the hardened-off seedlings into the field!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - March on the Farm: The Season Starts TO Awaken! - The slumber of winter is over, for the most part, and we’re waking up with the earth! Seed trays are starting to fill my house, and soon will be moved to the greenhouse, where delicate little sprouts will push through the soil, defying the snow still thick on the ground outside. Foxglove, lisianthus, delphinium, sweet peas, and snapdragons are some of the first to sprout, stretching toward the light of the sun. This year I sourced the majority of my seeds from Johnny’s Select Seeds, Eden Brothers, and Botanical Interests. I also recently learned about a few more hardy seed sources that I’ll be eager to try out.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - A year for growth and exploration - As I prepare to break ground on a new field here in Montana, the upcoming season presents an exciting opportunity to grow both our family farm and my business. I’ve carefully selected the best location on the farm, ensuring it has the right soil, sunlight, and drainage for the blooms I plan to grow. Over the next few months, I’ll focus on preparing the land, tilling the soil, and enriching it with organic compost to give the flowers the best start. I’m also mapping out irrigation lines and creating planting beds that allow for easy care and harvesting. With a mix of beloved classics and exciting new varieties, I’m eager to cultivate a vibrant field that will bloom with color all season long, while also continuing to help to build a sustainable, thriving farm for generations to come.</image:title>
<image:caption>I can’t wait to share some of the exciting plans I have in store for 2025. This year, I’m working on expanding the selection of locally grown flowers both in quantity and variety. I plan to do some experimenting with new varieties of flowers that will elevate your seasonal bouquets, and I will continue to focus on sustainability and eco-friendly practices. From the tiniest buds to full, vibrant blooms, Beverly Blooms’ commitment to providing you with the freshest, most beautiful flowers will always be at the heart of everything I do!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Let’s Catch Up! - Hi friends! It’s been a crazy end to the busy season, so much so that I haven’t been on top of my blog posting the past two months. So, let’s catch up! For those who have not heard yet, Beverly Blooms has moved to Montana! After 3 amazing seasons in Washington, I have decided to move back to Montana to continue my flower journey and be closer to family. I have so much love for Washington, it’s where I started my business and built an amazing community that has supported me beyond what I could have imagined! I’m so grateful to have joined the flower community and learned all that I have here and, at the same time, am so excited for this next phase in my floral career and to be a part of this new community!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Let’s Catch Up! - Now that I’m actually in Montana, it’s crunch time to get the field ready before the snow hits. Montana winters are intense, with the first snow typically in November and lasting to March, and often even April. There’s lots to do in these next few weeks. This past weekend I marked off the field area, next will be to run a soil test to determine what amendments the soil needs. I’ll likely cover the field in compost and then till the dirt. Tilling will both mix the nutrients from the compost into the dirt, loosen the soil, and help rip up the roots of the grass and weeds that are there right now. Once this is done, I’ll cover the entire field with heavy-duty tarps for the winter, weighing it down with rocks and sandbags. Lastly, I’m hoping to get a greenhouse set up on the farm for a place to start my seeds early, even if it’s still freezing out, and to potentially serve as a place to grow more tropical plants and flowers. This likely won’t happen until the Spring though, so stay tuned!</image:title>
<image:caption>The farm is located in a Zone 6a, which is a significantly colder and harsher climate than Washington. This means I have a lot to learn about how to grow, care, and maintain the plants and flowers in this zone. I’m about to dive into the book Rocky Mountain Month-By-Month Gardening: What to Do Each Month to Have A Beautiful Garden All Year - Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming by John Cretti. I plan to read through the whole book this Winter, take notes, and add what I’ve learned to my annual list of to-dos. I’ll be sure to report back on how this helps me through the year in this new environment.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Blink and You’ll Miss it! - The first part of taking better care of myself is making time to enjoy the Summer while it’s here! It’s the best time of year in Washington and the season is flying by, as usual, and I want to be sure to take moments to enjoy it while it’s still here. I love my work so much but this time of year it’s easy for it to feel like my whole life. It’s important to make time for things not related to work, even if you love what you do! Work-life balance, people!</image:title>
<image:caption>This month I will be making more time to do the things that I love like go swimming or paddleboarding, spend beautiful summer evenings with friends or walking my dog, read a book in the sunshine, and just enjoying the abundance of life that there is this time of year. Of course, my time is more limited to do these things this time of year, but my goal is to make more of an effort to do them with the time that I have. Something I try to remind myself of is the ebb and flow of the year as a whole, and that it all balances itself out. This time of year might feel a bit mad at times but it’s what I wait for all Winter and Spring. I know I will have plenty of rest come November and will be itching for Summer by March (if not earlier). It happens every year!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Most Wonderful Time of the Year - While I love the farming part of my business and being able to share my flowers through things like Flower Fridays and CSA subscriptions, I also love being able to express my creative side through wedding and design work. Since farming takes up so much time, I’m limited to how many weddings I can do each season, but I have two in July that I’m so excited for! The first is a goregous garden party themed wedding at Kiana Lodge. This wedding will be full of light blues, purples, creams, and whites and will include flowers like hydrangeas, sweet peas, roses, scabiosa, and more! Plus I will be doing my first ground arch for the ceremony which I am really looking forward to. It’s going to be stunning and I can’t wait to share pictures with you all!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - The Most Wonderful Time of the Year - In other news, Flower Fridays officially started last week! If you’re local to Bellingham be sure to stop by Lettered Street Coffeehouse or Lost Giants Cider Co. this Summer for fresh flower bouquets, every other Friday. The next Flower Friday will be on July 12th. Bouquets will be delivered to Lettered Street Coffeehouse by 9am and to Lost Giants Cider Co. by 2pm. Can’t make it to either of these locations? Need flowers before then? Reach out or visit the BB Shop to place custom orders all season.</image:title>
<image:caption>July is also the last month to sign up for the Autumn CSA subscription. This season I was gifted nearly 100 dahlia tubers from Carolyn at Willow & Mabel Garden Co. These gorgeous dahlias will be featured in the Autumn CSA bouquets, you won’t want to miss it! Spots are limited to sign up sooner rather than later.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - it’s Crunch Time! - Luckily, I’m someone who does best when I have a full schedule. Being busy with things that I’m passionate about is extremely rewarding for me, exhausting yes, but also fulfilling. So I’m welcoming the month, even if I’m still wrapping my head around the fact that it’s already June. As the first of the summer flowers are slowly beginning to bloom, I’m filled with excitement and anticipation. The time we’ve all been waiting for is here and I am so excited to see the flowers FINALLY blooming, the wedding designs come to life, and the old and new faces of those who I get to share my flowers with. It’s the time to put into motion all of the planning and preparation over the past few months.</image:title>
<image:caption>Going into each year I like to set goals for Beverly Blooms. I write down a few business-related goals and a few environmental goals. It was important to me when I started Beverly Blooms to strive to be as sustainable and environmentally conscious as I could be from the start. This year, I add a “personal goals” section to my annual goals. Last year I became way too burnt out and I knew putting myself through this each year would not be sustainable.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - it’s Crunch Time! - This month, I’m also doing final preparations for my Full Season and Summer CSAs. This is my first year doing CSAs so a lot of thought and planning has gone into it the past 6 months. Now, it’s time to work out any last-minute logistics, plan delivery routes, gather materials, share final information with the subscribers, and more. I’m so excited that I’m able to offer CSAs this season, this is something I’ve been working towards that last few years and to finally have the space to grow the quantity of flowers required for CSAs is incredible. The more this business grows the more flowers I will be able to grow, and in turn, the more CSA subscriptions I will be able to offer. So, thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has signed up for a CSA this season. It means so much to us small business owners.</image:title>
<image:caption>If you haven’t signed up for a CSA subscription yet, there’s still time! While Full Season and Summer CSA subscriptions are closed for the season, the Autumn CSA subscription is still available until August 1, 2024. There are only a few spots left so if you’ve been thinking about it, now’s your time!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - April Showers Bring May flowers - The other factor to monitor closely is the state of the flower start. This may seem obvious by last year, out of pure eagerness, I transplanted some of my flowers earlier than I probably should have. Because of this, some of those plants didn’t produce as many flowers as I would have liked, and the stems weren’t nearly as strong as they should have been. It was a learning moment for me, and this year I now know not to make that mistake again. There are a few ways to know if your seedlings are strong enough to be transplanted; the number of leaves, root strength, and stock strength. I’ve found that if there are at least 2-3 sets of leaves, a solid root system has developed, and the stock of the plant is thick and sturdy then the likelihood of the plant thriving after transplant is much higher.</image:title>
<image:caption>My first flowers to be transplanted are the snapdragons and scabiosa. These seeds took off almost immediately and are now bursting at the seams. Their roots are beginning to poke out of the sides of the soil blocks, and we are past any chance of frost so it will be safe to transplant this week. Transplanting will be quick and easy with the soil blocks. All I’ll need is my hori hori, a great gardening knife with a serrated edge, to dig a hole that is the perfect size for each soil block.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - April Showers Bring May flowers - On a more personal note, the past month has been quite the transition month for me. I made the decision to move to Bellingham, which is about 2 hours north of Poulsbo, just before you hit the Canadian border. I’ve spent the past few weeks getting settled in my new home, planning for the coming season now that I’m in a new location, and figuring out how to maintain my work in both Kitsap and Whatcom counties. Admittedly, it’s been a lot of work and I’ve had to make some big adjustments. Through this life change though I am learning how to plan ahead much better than I have in the past and be smart with my time.</image:title>
<image:caption>My flowers will still be grown at Farm Kitchen this season, so I will be going back and forth between Poulsbo and Bellingham. It’s not an ideal situation but it’s the price I will pay to be where I really want to be until I can fully move my business up north. I’ve absolutely loved living in Poulsbo and getting to know the Kitsap community better, but my future is in Bellingham and I had to make the hard decision to move before the exhaustion of busy season kicks in. The silver-lining to this is I get to maintain my Kitsap community while also building a new community in Whatcom county.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - April Transitions - Anyways, back to field prep. Since my soil is in good shape, the first task on my list is to prep the sweet pea field. My sweet peas are going to be transplanted this week, so support for the sweet peas needs to be set up within the next few days. Sweet peas are a viny plant, they need something to latch onto and climb up. So, I will be putting 7ft T-posts down the center of the row and then attaching net fencing to each T-post to create a wall down the row for the plants to climb up and thrive. The benefit to putting this in the center of the row is you can then put plant starts on both sides of the wall and fully utilized the net support.</image:title>
<image:caption>I will also be pinching all of my sweet pea starts. Pinching is when you cut the main stem of a plant, just above a node, once the plant has 2-3 leaf nodes (usually around 6 inches tall). The purpose of pinching is to force the plant to produce more lateral stems, and therefore more flowers. It can be a bit nerve-wracking to cut the stem of the seedling you worked so hard to start, but trust me it works and is worth it!</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/620adbcc6a06ab20be7d987f/53f42d0a-964d-4326-ab42-7381c782484e/IMG_0082.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Blog - April Transitions - Once the sweet peas have been transferred and pinched, I’ll shift my focus to dahlias! The other major task I’ll be doing this month is putting my dahlia tubers in the ground! Since the last frost date is so early this year (April 7), April should be plenty warm for the tubers. I overwintered most of my dahlias from last season (more on how to do this in the Fall), plus I placed an order with Willow & Mabel Garden Co. this year which I am SO excited about. Last season, I harvested dahlias at the Willow & Mabel farm, and I was able to create a list of all of my favorites while harvesting. This season, I was lucky enough to get almost every dahlia on that list and can’t wait to have them in my own field!</image:title>
<image:caption>Once I have all of my tubers for the season, it’s time to put them into the ground. Dahlias need full sun, so you first want to make sure the spot you choose gets at least 8 hours of sun each day. Once you’re ready to plant you will need to dig a hole about 6 inches deep for each tuber. The holes should be about 12 inches a part. I like to dig all of the holes first, then place each tuber on its side in the holes so I don’t lose track of where I am and accidentally bury tubers too close together, or waste any space.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - A sustainable spring! - I’m clearly very excite about this new toy of mine. It’s just one step of many to greener growing and a sustainable business. Right now, it may just look like a bunch of dirt but in just a few months each of these soil blocks will have grown into a beautiful, luscious flower. The hours of planning, sowing seeds, prepping the field, transplanting, watering, and nurturing each flower are well worth it when I walk through the aisles of my field in full bloom. It truly brings me so much peace and happiness, and I’m so grateful to be able to share it all with my community! My goal has always been to share my flowers with as many people as I can. Flowers are scientifically proven to cause an improvement in your mood. They literally give you joy! If I can provide a little joy to someone by sharing my passion, I feel like I’ve done my job. If you’d like to support local and receive a little joy each week this season, sign up for one of the Beverly Blooms’ CSA subscriptions. There are options for the whole season and for every budget!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - February seeds are being sown - I’ve already started the Delphinium seeds as these actually need to be sown a minimum of 10 weeks before the last frost. This is my first year growing these beauties, so I’ll only be sowing one variety. The first year growing something new is always a bit of a learning process for me so I like to start small. The variety I’m growing this season is “Magic Fountains Sky Blue White Bee”, which you can see in this arrangement from last year. Blue flowers are so rare which makes them all the more beautiful and I’m excited to add these to my field. I’ve used Delphinium a lot in my work, particularly the light blue varieties like this, and have always had to source it from other farmers or wholesalers. As a Micro Farmer-Florist, my goal is to eventually source the majority of my flowers from my own field for my design work. So, I’m giving Delphinium a try in hopes that I can begin to use them in all of my future work! If anyone has any tips, please let me know!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - February seeds are being sown - There are many things I love about Sweet Peas, the first being they bloom early! Typically, you’ll start to see the first blooms in June and once the first petals appear, the plant begins to produce like crazy! Every day there is noticeable growth and, somehow, more blooms until the plant has reached its limit and begins to go to seed. These flowers are soft and delicate, and they smell incredible. Put a vase of Sweet Peas on your kitchen table and your whole home will smell like fresh flowers. Even just walking by them on the farm my nose is filled with the freshest, most delightful scent. Not all Sweet Peas have a scent, but the ones that do are heavenly.</image:title>
<image:caption>With expanding the amount of Sweet Peas that I am growing, there is some extra preparation to be done. These are viny flowers so they need good support, something they can latch onto and climb up. The better support they have the healthier and stronger the plant will be. I’ll be installing posts and netting down the middle of the row where I plan to put the starts once they are strong enough to go into the ground. I’ll then line both sides of the net with Sweet Pea plants to utilize the space as much as I can.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - February seeds are being sown - Snapdragons come in an abundance of colors and are so beautiful. Like Delphinium, they are long and tall with several blooms on one stem, offering a unique shape and more volume to each floral piece that they are used in. This is important in floral design, as you want to have different lines, shapes, and textures in your work to make it that much more interesting to look at. On top of that, they also work hard all season. If well taken care of, Snapdragons will bloom July through September here in zone 8b. Snapdragons do not stop producing and are worth every inch of real estate, in my opinion. Plus, they typically have strong stems and a long vase life, making them great for bouquets and other more fragile pieces that may get bumped or have to travel. Overall, Snapdragons are worth the investment and a great flower to have as a farmer-florist. They are beautiful, interesting, and reliable to grow and work with. The unsung hero of cut flowers, if you will. I plan to grow Snapdragons for a long time! Let me know if you have a favorite Snapdragon variety that I should try next season!</image:title>
